Redbull's 2024 contender introduces groundbreaking innovations across its design spectrum

Red Bull Racing's unveiling of the RB20 signals a significant departure from their previous designs, defying expectations of minimal changes to a car that dominated the 2023 F1 season. The RB20 boasts a strikingly aggressive upgrade, departing from bodywork trends established in 2022 and presenting a bold evolution in aerodynamic philosophy.

One standout feature is the upright radiator inlet, situated tightly inboard and extending to the bottom of the chassis. This design, reminiscent of the original zero sidepod Mercedes of 2022, represents a departure from Red Bull's previous approaches. Rather than eliminating sidepods like the old Mercedes, Red Bull retains them and leverages the vertical inlet to create an extensive undercut at the front, enhancing aerodynamic efficiency.

Advancements in radiator technology allow for smaller yet equally effective coolers. Red Bull's intricate shaping of radiators into compound curves, evident in previous models, permits them to be positioned lower in the RB20. This relocation not only lowers the car's center of gravity but also prompts a reevaluation of the overall layout.

The relocation of the radiators allows for a radical reworking of the upper bodywork, characterized by a shorter rear upper body and sidepods. This configuration creates ample volume ahead of the rear wing, enhancing airflow around the diffuser and maximizing underfloor performance.

Furthermore, the RB20's cooling layout has undergone significant changes. The vertical positioning of the inlet, now situated beneath the bodywork lip, optimizes airflow along the floor edges towards the diffuser's outer body. The high bodywork shoulders facilitate the airflow's path from radiators to the rear of the car, reminiscent of Mercedes' design from 2022-2023.

Overall, Red Bull's RB20 represents a meticulous reimagining of aerodynamic principles, aimed at maximizing underfloor performance and maintaining their competitive edge in the upcoming 2024 season. With these innovative changes, Red Bull sends a clear message to their competitors and sets high expectations for the season ahead.
